Capita Professional Services are responsible for recruiting candidates for the British Army. Part of that process involves the medical screening of candidates. We are looking for qualified Medical Practitioners with at least 5 years post full GMC Registration experience. Familiarity with recruitment medicals is not essential as training and support will be provided. This role's direct Line Manager is the Deputy Chief Medical officer (DCMO).
This role is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) post based at Upavon, Wiltshire, SN9 6BE.
Provide pre-entry medical scrutiny of candidates' Primary Health Care Records (PHCR) for the Army as required by contract and in compliance with the standards mandated by the military medical standards as laid down in the Joint Service Publication (JSP 950) as well as single service variance and Capita guidelines and documents.
To act as Lead Clinician to a team of Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Podiatrists engaged in PHCR scrutiny.
To act as a Clinical adviser and final decision-maker on difficult cases. With time and experience becoming the Subject Matter Expert for PHCR Scrutiny and to become the Lead Trainer for staff that are engaged subsequently.
To take Clinical Responsibility for monitoring the quality of Clinical Decision-making by the PHCR Team.
Ensure that all relevant documentation is completed for each scrutiny.
Undertake all medical activity in a professional manner following the GMC "Good Medical Practice" guidelines.
Ensure that the Service Level Agreements are maintained so that all work is carried out and paperwork is completed legibly and returned within the agreed quality and timeframes, where appropriate.
Completion of computerised reports.
Carry out Level 1a Appeals.
Comply with Capita Audit and Quality Assurance processes.
Complete Referrals to the DCMO/ CMO / single Service Occupational Physician (sSOP) as appropriate.
Attend regular Capita Doctors' Meetings and some Occupational Medicine Ward Rounds at Upavon.
Comply with Capita clinical governance requirements.
Any other tasks associated with the role.

Key Skills & Qualifications - Summary:
Qualified Medical Practitioner with at least 5 years GMC post-full registration experience.
Qualification/ Experience in Disability Medicine / Occupational Medicine is desirable
Experience of military recruitment medicals is desirable but not essential (full training will be given).
Effective written and oral communication skills to ensure that Staff understand the requirements of their role. process of the medical and that paperwork/admin is completed in a clear and accurate manner.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan and prioritise work load.
Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative as well as part of as a team.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer literacy.
This role will be an excellent introduction to Occupational Medicine.
You will be working as part of an integrated team of 14 mutually supportive Doctors.
On-site subject matter expert support and guidance will be available at all times.
Once settled in the role, you will be trained in other clinical aspects of army recruiting, with a view to aiding your appraisal/ revalidation cycle.
You will be trained as a Clinical Appraiser.
You will be covered by Capita's Indemnity Insurance at no cost to yourself.
You will be able to reclaim 100% of your GMC Annual Retention Fee.
