The Teleassessment Nurse would be required to review Royal Navy Medical Questionnaires and follow up undertake a telephone based assessment with Royal Navy candidates to assess medical eligibility against recruitment standards as set by the Joint Service Provision JSP950 with single service variations.

The role requires an individual who is able to work autonomously and also as a key team member. They will also need a calm, efficient and professional disposition. They will need to:

* To understand the medical standards that candidates are assessed against to support key decision making
* Be professional in questioning candidates to ensure that candidates are kept at ease during the process and leave the call maintaining the positive reputation of HM Armed Forces
* Provide accurate data from medical questioning that will permit accurate judgments of fitness of candidates, including where further medical evidence will be required for the candidates medical examination
* To leave a full audit trail of the decision making process using the WARP system
* To undertake the calls in an efficient manner
* To maintain confidentiality for all candidates

The role will require a degree of IT literacy as a paperless environment is the aspiration.

Accountabilities and main responsibilities

Training and development:
* Facilitate the professional and personal training of medical screening personnel
* Maintain own professional development and update personal portfolio in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for Post Registration Education and Practice (PREP)
* Contribute to the development and application of audit and research models; disseminate results and implement evidence based improvements to practice
* Maintain regular learning which may include personal learning, teleconferences, clinical review meetings and mandatory training dates

Medical screening:
* To undertake telephone based assessment based on a set of branching questions aimed at highlighting candidates at the first stage of the medical screening process that are ineligible to join the Royal Navy, and those that may require Further Medical Evidence from their GP Surgery or be temporarily medically unfit to join the Navy until sufficient time has elapsed since becoming symptom free of their temporarily barring condition.
* Referring cases to Capita Doctors, where required for additional clinical judgement is required, and in some circumstances refer on to the Royal Navy medical team
* To review further medical evidence received following the initial request to ensure it is fit for purpose
* To ensure that conversations are documented in an appropriate format on the electronic questionnaire.
* Review further medical evidence following pre-service medical making a decision on suitability for service in accordance with current guidelines
* Clinical governance commensurate with the position
* Assist in dealing safely and effectively with difficult or distressed candidates

Other duties:
* Provide clinical advice for recruiters and candidates on medical issues
* Liaise with other health care professionals and external agencies on questions regarding medical standards
* Heighten awareness of the importance of medical screening to recruiters and other interested parties
* Monitoring standards and implementing remedial actions and/or completing significant event analysis data.
* Other medical or clerical duties according to the needs of the department.

Essential Skills:

* NMC registration
* Experience in Health Screening
* Excellent inter personal and communication skills
* Specific experience of audiometry, spirometry, vision screening and biometric assessment with a basic comprehension of results
* Calm professional disposition
* Full understanding of medical equipment and associated consumables used in testing and good practice in use, storage and maintenance of such equipment.
* IT skills - E mail, excel, Word

Desired Experience:

* Excellent inter personal and communication skills
* Attendance at recognised courses in relation to these tests and excellent ability to understand the data generated.
* Calm professional disposition
* Ability to fault find and address minor technical and connectivity issues with equipment
* IT qualification
