They provide the highest standards of care. Their aim is to help residents live as normally as possible with their independence and personal dignity respected and honoured. Over 80 staff look after the needs of forty-five residents. They are registered by the East Kent Health Authority, Kent County Council and the Department of Social Services. And are member of the Registered Nursing Homes Association.
This Team Leader role is "hands on" and including several reports.
The Team Leader has overall responsibility to the Nurse on Duty for the management of the HCA team which s/he is leading and to participate in the caring tasks of the team. The role will be extremely varied and you will be expected to handle multiple tasks.
*To promote the philosophy of privacy, dignity, independence, choice, rights and fulfilment for all residents, within a policy of managed risk taking.
*Be able to administer medication safely
*Manage staff rotas ensuring these are used to the best effect for the physical, social and emotional care of residents and effective running of the home.
*Ensure that team members understand and endorse the aims and objectives of KMNH by guidance, instruction and practice.
*Responsibility for clear lines of communication ensuring staff are fully conversant with their duties +/- to include holding regular team meetings, promotion of an effective 'keycarer' system and supervision of staff members.
*Identify training needs. Participate in the planning and implementation of in-house training, including induction training for new staff.
*Take appropriate action to remedy any unsatisfactory staff performance, recording any significant action.
Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications
*Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care or equivalent (or is willing to work towards)
*Minimum 3 years full-time or equivalent work in a residential care setting Level 3 Award in Effective Team Leading or equivalent is desirable A good proven training record.
*A good sickness record.
*A clean disciplinary record.
*A proven record in care of the elderly and a desire to provide excellence of care through skilled team management, the ability to relate to older people and care for them in a sensitive manner
*Dementia Care training is desirable (though not essential)
*Conversant with Care Standards Act, understanding of responsibilities under HSAW Act. Food Hygiene, Infection Control, Risk Assessment, Care Plans and Reviews
*Experience of liaising with other care/health professionals, supervision, chairing meetings, organising and implementing training, communication skills
*Computer literate and willing to use IT systems is essential
*Ability to demonstrate systems monitoring and compliance is essential
