Senior Staff Nurse Recovery –
ROLE AND CONTEXT NEED TO DO
PURPOSE:
To provide Clinical Theatre Nursing experience within the Operating Department.
CONTEXT:
The London Independent Hospital is an 80 bedded acute care hospital
In addition to in-patient accommodation the hospital has full Out Patient Services, X-ray, MRI, Physiotherapy, Three Operating Theatres, Endoscopy Suite, I.T.U, C.C.U, C.S.S.D, Health Screening and Ancillary support.
The hospital has 24 hour resident medical cover and 24hr.Intensivist in residence.
DIMENSIONS:
- 3 Operating theatres, specialising in Cardiothoracic, Neuro, Opthalmics, Orthopaedics, Vascular, General, Gynae, G.U, ENT and Plastic Surgery.
- 1 Endoscopy Suite
- 3 Anaesthetic Rooms
- 1 Large Recovery room – consisting of 4 bays.
- C.S.S.D. Unit providing sterile services to Theatre.
- X-Ray
- Physio
- O.P.D.
- Wards
- Cath Lab.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Theatre Manager – reports to
Theatre Staff – internal customer
Other Hospital Staff – Internal customers
Consultants – external customers
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:
• Handing over of Patients to Ward Staff
• Assists in the ordering of consumables.
• Answering queries from relatives/ward staff
• Works within Hospital policies and procedures + Health & Safety at work legislation.
KEY OUTPUTS:
- To deliver at all times high standards of technical and clinical care by assessment, evaluation and implementation of patient needs, in Post Operative Period.
- To work effectively with medical staff. – To ensure compliance with local/corporate policies and procedures.
- Ensure accurate records of patients’ care and progress are maintained.
- To remain updated on Infection Control and COSHH
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation.
- To attend relevant courses to enable the effectiveness of the role.
- To participate in on-call duties as required.
- Ensure safe handling and maintenance of equipment.
- To be a full member of the clinical team and accept designated responsibilities from the Theatre Manager and Theatre Sister.
- To ensure competence in use of current relevant theatre/recovery equipment
- To ensure competence in use of current relevant, recovery and Endoscopy Equipment
- Participate in the daily running of Endoscopy Unit
In absences of Manager
- To assist with all Endoscopy procedure
- To utilise all resources within the department effectively.
- To participate in the promotion of sound communication channels within the department, outside agencies, staff and relatives.
- To be accountable for own actions/omissions.
- To participate in internal auditing when required.
- To ensure the Accidents/Complaints are fully documented and senior management informed in accordance with local policy.
- To participate in training of new staff and act as mentor.
- To participate in training of any students within the department.
