‘Sliding scale’ for misconduct burden of proof

 

 

 

 

Chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson looks set to modify controversial proposals to reduce the burden of proof in medical misconduct cases and instead introduce a sliding scale based on the seriousness of the allegations.

 

At a Kings fund meeting Sir Liam said that he had moved his thinking on the consultation document on the future of medical regulation, Good doctors, Safer patients in which he proposed shifting from the standard of ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ to the lesser civil standard.
