A nurse who damaged her back while lifting a heavy patient has launched a legal battle for compensation from her employer of £250.000.
Nicola Pitt damaged her back while she and two social workers were trying to move a heavy patient from a chair to a bed while working on a gynaecology ward at Basildon University Hospital in Essex, according to a high court writ.
The remote control for the hoist that Ms Pitt was using failed to work properly so she had to manouvre it manually, resulting in her back injury, she claims.
Ms pitt says the injury has put her at adisadvantage in the labour market and that she has lost 'congenial employment'. She is suing Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for negligence.
